This is an overhead shot of a circular floor medallion within St. Peter's Basilica in Città del Vaticano, Vatican City. The central feature is an ornate bronze circular grate, approximately 50-60cm in diameter, featuring intricate floral patterns and several stylized bird figures, with a prominent bird, possibly an eagle or dove with outstretched wings, at its very center. This grate is set into an inner ring of dark, cracked grey and black marble. Surrounding this is a wider ring of polished white marble, which bears golden, embossed Latin inscriptions. The upper inscription reads "S.S. ECCLESIA LATERANENSIS M.121.84", while the lower inscription reads "PRIMATIALIS ECCLESIA TOLETANA M.122". Two small, five-pointed golden stars are embedded in the white marble ring, marking the lateral division between the two textual segments. An outermost ring of reddish-brown marble frames the white and dark marble rings. The wider floor area visible beyond the medallion consists of a mosaic of polished marble tiles in shades of white, beige, and reddish-brown. At the bottom of the frame, a person's feet, wearing light-colored, possibly canvas, lace-up shoes and white socks, are visible, along with the lower portions of camouflage-patterned trousers, indicating a first-person perspective looking directly down at the marker.
